Kristin:    00:00:00    Kristin Wilson here from Traveling with Kristin. The Badass Digital Nomads podcast is now the Traveling with Kristin podcast, and in this short episode, I'll tell you exactly what to expect. Welcome to the Traveling with Kristin Podcast, your destination for travel tips, living abroad, advice and insights that help you experience life in foreign cultures. If you're interested in slow travel, living abroad or a digital nomad lifestyle, you're in the right place. I'm your host, Kristin Wilson, the author of Digital Nomads for Dummies and the host of Traveling with Kristin on YouTube. Thank you for traveling with me today and let's see where our journey takes us.

Kristin:    00:00:51    Oh my goodness, you guys, we have a new podcast. It's, it's kind of a weird feeling, but I'm really happy with this decision and I love that it was a collective community group decision because I've been thinking about this for the past couple of years, and I finally articulated it to my podcast Mastermind, which includes Chase Warrington from About Abroad, and Matt Bowles from the Maverick Show. Jason Moore from Zero to Travel was also helpful in helping me make this decision. So thanks to him. So based on our survey and also posts that I made on YouTube, we have a consensus and that is to move forward with this name change. You know, I think some people who are new to me and my YouTube channel, were wondering why the podcast was called Badass Digital Nomads in the first place, and I actually had been wanting to start a podcast since 2015.

Kristin:    00:01:56    I think that was when I first started making notes in my Apple Notes app and just developing the idea over the next couple of years and had finally decided to move ahead with starting a YouTube channel in 2017. And the podcast came out in 2019 after about a year of recording interviews with people around the world. So the idea for the name Badass Digital Nomads came back in the early 2010s, possibly as far back as like 2014, definitely 2015. And so I think it was just time for a little update and a name change because we all change a lot as human beings within a decade, and certainly the world has changed a lot, especially when it comes to the global perspective and outlook on what it means to be location independent, a remote worker, a roving retiree, a digital nomad, whatever you like to identify with the world has certainly changed, especially post 2020 pandemic.

Kristin:    00:03:09    So I'll have the same quality of podcast coming to you hopefully with these 1% improvements that we all strive for and work in life with solo episodes, with interviews with inspiring people and much more. I have a lot of ideas of new types of episodes and interactive episodes with extra downloads and resources for you. So I'm really excited for what is to come, but all good changes. We have new podcast art, we have a new website and we have a new look. We have always had all of the episodes on my main website TravelingwithKristin.com. You can just go there and click on podcast at the top, and that will take you to the archive of our nearly 300 episodes. At this point, we also have a new website that has been moved over from badassdigitalnomads.com to podcast.TravelingwithKristin.com.

Kristin:    00:04:17    So if you ever left a review on the old website, that will be moved over there. We also have the tags and search feature on that site. Last week when we tested it, it was working, but today when I went to publish this episode, it is down at the moment until that site is back up. Everything is still on TravelingwithKristin.com/podcast. Other than that, you can keep listening on your favorite app. You won't have to change your subscription or anything like that. We've just simply updated the the name of the podcast across platforms and the RSS feed will stay the same. There's one other change that I'll be making starting in August, which is moving to a bi-weekly publishing schedule. So for the last five, five and a half years, we've been publishing almost every single week, 267 episodes, and after a lot of thought and strategic planning and contemplation, I have decided to move to a biweekly schedule to free up some time and also resources so that we can start publishing the podcast on YouTube.

Kristin:    00:05:34    I've received a lot of requests for this, especially over on my YouTube community page and in the comments. So what I've decided to do is reduce the schedule to biweekly and also publish them on YouTube. So our next episode will be on August 6th, episode 268 with Lauren Rafi, who's the head of Pluima, which is Safety Wing's new digital country. I made a video about that on my channel and it was really controversial, and I'm so excited to be sharing the interview with you, which is an hour and a half long. We get into a lot of detail. So that's coming your way August 6th, and the second episode for August will be on August 20th, which is another great interview, as well as September 3rd, episode 270, which will be with Jason Moore from the Zero to Travel podcast. So really looking forward to that one as well as I am with all of our episodes.

Kristin:    00:06:35    No other changes other than to just keep an eye out for the new podcast, art and the name, the Traveling with Kristin Podcast and rest in peace, Badass Digital Nomads. The original idea of the podcast was to simply showcase all of the different types of people that are living a digital nomad lifestyle, but it's evolved to become much more than that, focused on lifestyle design, adapting to foreign cultures, and also guiding you through not just a location independent lifestyle, but an international overseas lifestyle of living or slow traveling in other countries and being a citizen of the world. So I just wanted to publish this podcast episode today to share this news with you to bookmark this new phase in our journey together, and to thank you for all of your support to date, and thank you again to the more than 50 people who took the time to fill out the name change Google form.

Kristin:    00:07:42    I was so impressed and entertained by the responses that I got there, so I won't go through all of them for time purposes, but we had people like Alex Duffy who said, be like Orville Redden Baer. Focus on doing one thing and doing it great. In his case, it was popcorn, in your case, it's travel stories, and he even included a link to Orville Redden Baer's bio. Thank you so much, Alex, longtime listener of the pod. Also shout out to my patrons Jeff and Deanna Long, who have been longtime listeners of the show. Jeff left a lot of thoughts from a business and marketing perspective that I really appreciated, and he said The big thought front of my mind is that I graduated from the School of Kristin after listening to the first two to three years of the podcast reading Digital Nomads for Dummies, and joining your Patreon, you've established a corpus of work that I'm more likely to go back and review by rereading your book or reviewing old podcast episodes and YouTube videos.

Kristin:    00:08:47    So I love to hear from listeners who've actually used the podcast as a stepping stone to achieving a location independent lifestyle. We have Karen from Canada living in Albania. We have Dave from Canada who's living in South America. We have Dave from California who's been traveling through Mexico and Portugal and Europe and achieving their dreams of living and retiring abroad. So it's just amazing to see. There were also a significant number of people who voted to keep the name Badass Digital Nomads, which I really appreciate, and also people who voted to start a second podcast for Traveling with Kristin. But the reason that I ultimately decided to change the name was that I feel like it best represents the topics and content that I'm talking about now and moving forward, and I also wanted to be more inclusive of people who don't identify as digital nomads, although I know a lot of you did find the podcast through searching for content about digital nomads.

Kristin:    00:09:56    So hopefully the Google gods will continue to show my podcast as a Digital Nomad podcast as well if you search for it. As far as starting a second podcast, as I mentioned, I've decided to scale back and go to a biweekly publishing schedule with the amount of content that I create and the plans and projects that I would like to pursue in the future. I've decided that this is the best course for me. I want to continue to do the podcast long term for the next 10 years or however long we go for maybe forever, but with other plans and projects priorities I have in my life. Going to a more manageable schedule is best for me, and I think it will be best for you too, as I'll be able to invest more time and creativity in each episode. To kick things off, feel free to leave a review for The Traveling with Kristin podcast. If you are a new listener or an old listener, I love reading your feedback and this will be a great way to kick things off and celebrate the new name. It's also my birthday, well yesterday, July 22nd, so this will also be a great birthday present for me to receive your first Traveling with Kristin Podcast review. Our next episode will be out on August 6th, so make sure you check your podcast app, and I look forward to seeing you then on the Traveling with Kristin Podcast.
